He works full time at the Medical Center for Birds
in Oakley, CA were he will complete an
ABVP residency in avian
medicine in the Fall of 2009.

Dr. Olsen is a 2006 graduate of Texas A&M University College of Veterinary Medicine.

He started his quest to become a “bird brain” as an undergraduate getting his Bachelor of Science in Wildlife Biology from The University of Vermont.

While getting his degree at UVM he also began working with the feathered ones as a volunteer raptor rehabilitator.
He moved on to run a Raptor Center in McKinney, TX treating as many 380 raptors in a single year.

After 3.5 years as the raptor rehabilitator, he started his career in Veterinary Medicine at TAMU.

While getting his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree Geoff branched into avian research on Avian Iron Storage Disease with Dr David Phalen of the
Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center. His research papers won the 2004 Student Manuscript Award award from the Association of Avian Veterinarians and he presented papers on Avian Iron Storage Disease at both the 2004 and 2005 Association of Avian Veterinarians Annual Conference.

During his 4 years at Texas A&M Geoff helped instruct his fellow students in the avian physical exam and other aspects of avian medicine through the Zoo, Exotic, and Wildlife Club.

He also spent time doing some volunteer work with the
National Parrot Rescue and Preservation Foundation.

His professional goals include learning, practicing, and furthering the field of avian medicine and surgery.
